Kate Campbell is a dedicated nurse serving in the Pacific during WWII--she works tirelessly and selflessly, caring for soldiers in grueling conditions. When she breaks her leg during a difficult flight, she is forced to return to the States to heal, but she is determined to get back on her feet soon. But instead of being sent back to the familiar Pacific theater, Kate finds herself stationed in Great Britain and much closer to the secrets of her childhood. Kate unintentionally falls for William, one of the soldiers in her care, but their time together is threatened both by the war that is raging, and a past that Kate wishes she could leave behind. Salazar slowly unravels Kate's story through dual time lines, using Kate's perspective in 1943 and William's in 2003, which keep readers guessing until the heart-wrenching conclusion to this emotional and devastating, yet also hopeful novel. Fans of Kristin Hannah will appreciate the strong women here as well as the extraordinary circumstances they overcome.
