The Battle of Endor is recently finished. The Empire has fallen to the Rebellion. But before his demise, the Emperor issued an order to destroy the worlds with "questionable loyalty." Several splinters of the Empire refuse to admit defeat. These factions are carrying out that dying decree, some more eagerly and efficiently than others. Thus the Rebellion has become the New Republic but is still defending against Imperial forces. Five talented pilots from disparate backgrounds are recruited to form a squadron. Their mission: to hunt down the deadliest splinter, a fleet of TIE fighters known as the Shadow Wing. One pilot is Yrica Quell, who had been part of the Shadow Wing before she defected to the Rebellion, willing to do whatever is necessary to prove she is no longer loyal to the Empire. VERDICT Freed (Rogue One; Battlefront Twilight Company) offers a traditional "Star Wars" story told from the point of view of the five recruits and a couple of Imperial holdouts. Fans of the political intrigue, pitched space battles, and interpersonal humor of the original movie trilogy will rush to consume this first of a new trilogy.--Elizabeth Masterson, Mecklenburg Cty.
