The Ultimate Playbook for Make-Ahead Meals
February 19, 2021
The latest book by Good Housekeeping, with a foreword by editor-in-chief Jane Francisco, is focused on making family meals easier to put together and keeping stress to a minimum. In a nod to meal prep techniques, the book includes a chapter on freezing both meals and ingredients, big batch cooking (although one should note most of the recipes make between four and six servings), and using the same ingredients in different dishes. Most of the book is devoted to the 100-plus recipes that should satisfy most members of the family, including vegetarians, with recipes that range from breakfast burritos to spring minestrone. Similar to other Good Housekeeping titles, this one also features lavish photographs that will help guide readers along as they replicate dishes such as sheet-pan chickpea chicken. The writing is uncluttered, and each meal features easy-to-find ingredients with clear instructions. Recipes are augmented by tips for cooking and techniques offered throughout. VERDICT Complete with meal plans, this is a practical resource offering advice and suggestions for mealtime variety. An ideal complement to Good Housekeeping Cookbook: 1,200 Triple-Tested Recipes by Susan Westmoreland.--Ginny Wolter, Toledo Lucas Cty. P.L.
